Recora Bed Occupancy Sensors (BOS) and Chair Occupancy Sensors (COS)
are inexpensive, reliable options that are used predominantly in hospitals
and assisted living homes. These sensors can be placed under mattresses and
wheelchair cushions to monitor patient movement and inform caregivers in the
event of an emergency.
For greater versatility, sensors are available as
single or dual switches. When the patient is safely on the bed or chair, the
contacts close. Once the contacts are no longer compressed by the patient,
the circuit is opened, sending a signal to alert the caregiver. By connecting
the sensor to a telecare system, it is capable of automatically turning on a
light or signaling the caregiver if a patient is out of bed for longer than
an allotted time. Recora BOS and COS switches are currently
used world-wide. The most common application of BOS and COS
switches is to alert the caregiver when the patient leaves the bed.
Construction
Since 1987, Recora Inc, a US manufacturer, has excelled in developing
Bed and Chair Occupancy Sensors. BOS and COS switches are
available in stainless steel and gold plated steel, sealed in a durable
vinyl cover over a PVC base plate. The sensors are designed for low voltage
operation, Class II N.E.C. circuit, 100 watts at 24 volts A/C or D/C, 1.5 ma;
3A maximum operating current. Contacts are single pole, single throw, normally
open, momentary contact type.
